Property tax form questions?

I bought my first vehicle and I was told I needed to go to our courthouse to receive a form saying I do not own any property yet. I was wondering though if I could do that in another county/city because I left for school the day after I bought it. I have never dealt with this stuff before and was just wondering so I didn't have to drive home. Thanks in advance.
