How safe is it in Japan Town/Civic Center, San Francisco?
Japan Town is close to public transportation that will take you to the Wharfs easily with one transfer of buses. Ask the bus driver who will tell you how to get there, or call 673-MUNI from any phone for directions. You have to be aware that San Francisco is a large city and like any large city you visit be aware of your surroundings and don't look like a tourist. San Francisco is relatively safe, even at night. Civic Center can get to be scary after dark, even dangerous if you venture too far off Market Street alone at night, you could end up in the Tenderloin very easily from Civic Center. Day time is fine just about anywhere and Japantown is one of the safer and nicer sections to stay.
